Indian hotels set to fuel US $1 tn GDP

The Indian hotel industry’s direct contribution to the country’s GDP is projected to reach US $1 trillion by 2047, propelled by a substantial increase in domestic tourism and international arrivals, according to a report by Hotel Association of India (HAI) and Benori Knowledge. According to the research, the domestic hotel sector’s direct GDP contribution was US $40 billion last year, is forecast to increase to US $68 billion by 2027, and will reach almost US $1 trillion by 2047. The report also pointed out that for the hotel sector to meet this goal, the expansion of accommodations must extend beyond metro regions, to Tier II & III cities, as well as to rural areas.
