The government of Gujarat has decided to waive off property tax as well as fixed charge in electricity bills of hotels, resorts, restaurants and water parks affected by Covid-19 pandemic for the duration of one year. The decision was announced on Twitter by the Chief Minister’s Office, Gujarat. The tweet stated, “In a sensitive gesture, CM Vijay Rupani decides to waive-off property tax as well as fixed charge in electricity bills of hotels, resorts, restaurants and water parks affected by Corona pandemic for one year i.e, from April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022 in the state.”
This announcement comes as a relief to the Hospitality Industry that has been one of the worst affected because of the pandemic and the resultant lockdowns.
The request for the waiver of property tax, water charges, electricity charges and excise license fees for the lockdown period had been a constant request from the Hospitality Industry. Along with this, The Federation of Hotel & Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI) has repeatedly highlighted the dismal state of the hospitality industry and has pleaded to the Government for immediate fiscal measures to save the Hospitality industry from its present deteriorating state.
