The Delhi Wedding Forum has recently requested Delhi Health Minister Satyender Jain to permit weddings to take place with up to 200 guests or 50% capacity of the venue. Currently, the number of wedding guests in Delhi cannot exceed 20. The Forum tells the government that this limitation is leading to mass cancellation or rescheduling of over 90% weddings in the city. Many weddings are also shifting out of Delhi to Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Punjab that allow more guests to attend functions. Citing revenue loss and unemployment, the Forum says the government should allow gatherings as per the formula of 4 Sq ft / Per Person. The Forum has also assured the government of strict enforcement of Covid protocols at the wedding venues. This includes enforcing temperature and vaccine status check, No Mask No Entry and two-time sanitisation of venues every day.
The eight-member delegation, led by Rajeev Jain, MD of Rashi Entertainment, made a unified appeal on behalf of the events industry to draw attention to the sector which has been severely affected due to the situation since last two years. Jain said, “A joint representation was given by the entire Delhi wedding industry (including wedding planning agencies, caterers, banquet owners, 5-star properties) to the Heath Minister, requesting to remove the cap of 20 guests in Delhi for weddings as well as suggestions for way forward. The minister heard the representation and gave his views regarding the same and confirmed that the government will respond at the right time.”
