Registered hotels in Maharashtra to get ‘industrial rates’

In a move to revive the tourism industry, Maharashtra Govt establishes an expert committee to ensure registered hotels in the state are accorded ‘industrial rates’. In this regard, from 1 April 2021, hotels in the state of Maharashtra registered with the Union Ministry of Tourism would be charged an industrial rate for electricity, seed fee, water tax, property tax, development tax, increased carpet area index, and non-agricultural tax.

After meeting the stipulated criteria for attaining basic minimum standards, hotels that are not registered with the Union Ministry of Tourism will be offered tax at the industrial rate. The process of meeting the criteria should be completed within two months. Following that, hotels that meet the criteria for the online application process should be levied taxes and fees at the industrial rate. The Maharashtra government is issuing this decision in compliance with the approval given at the cabinet meeting on 5 November 2020.
