Value and volume must coexist in tourism: Kachru

As the debate around high-value tourism gains traction, KB Kachru, President, Hotel Association of India (HAI), has cautioned against overlooking the importance of tourist volumes in driving the country’s tourism economy. He advocated a balanced approach, arguing that the industry should not view value and volume as competing priorities. While excessive dependence on visitor numbers can place pressure on destinations and natural resources, high-value tourism generates higher economic returns per traveller and often places less strain on infrastructure.

Kachru further said India’s unique strength lies in its ability to serve multiple tourism segments simultaneously, from mass leisure and spiritual travel to luxury tourism, MICE, wellness and niche experiential journeys.
