Hotels across the world are increasingly adopting globally recognised sustainability standards, but India continues to lag behind despite clear business benefits, said CB Ramkumar, Vice Chair, GSTC. Despite booming business, India has one of the lowest percentages of GSTC-certified hotels globally. There are only 6 GSTC-certified hotels in India, compared to over 2,000 globally. He attributes this to complacency and the prevalence of greenwashing.
