Senior leadership appointments at regional level are increasingly shaping how global hotel groups sharpen brand focus and operational consistency across complex markets. Accor’s decision to appoint a dedicated chief operating officer for luxury in South Asia reflects the growing strategic importance of the region within the group’s premium and lifestyle portfolio.

Accor announced on 2 February 2026 the appointment of Amitabh Rai as Chief Operating Officer – Luxury, Accor South Asia, effective 15 January 2026. In this role, Rai will lead the operational and strategic direction of Accor’s luxury and lifestyle portfolio across South Asia, with responsibility for driving performance and brand execution for Raffles, Fairmont and Sofitel.

“Amitabh’s appointment comes at a pivotal time for Accor’s luxury journey in South Asia. His deep operational expertise, people-first leadership style and sharp strategic lens make him exceptionally well-suited to lead our luxury and lifestyle portfolio. Amitabh has a rare ability to balance brand integrity with commercial excellence, and we are confident he will play a defining role in shaping the next phase of growth for our luxury brands in the region,” said Ranju Alex, Chief Executive Officer, Accor South Asia.

A leadership role focused on luxury performance

In his new position, Rai will be responsible for defining and executing Accor’s long-term strategic vision for its luxury and lifestyle brands in South Asia. His mandate includes strengthening brand differentiation, driving financial performance, and providing strategic and operational leadership across the regional portfolio.

The appointment comes as Accor continues to expand its luxury footprint in South Asia, with a sharper emphasis on brand clarity, experience-led growth, and sustained operational excellence.

Three decades of hospitality experience

Rai brings nearly three decades of hospitality experience across India and Indonesia, spanning senior leadership roles and a seven-year entrepreneurial venture. He began his career with Oberoi Hotels & Resorts after graduating from The Oberoi School of Hotel Management and went on to become one of the youngest general managers of his time.

In 2018, he joined Marriott International as General Manager of The Ritz-Carlton, Bangalore, later overseeing the Hyderabad market. Most recently, he served as multi-property general manager for The Ritz-Carlton and JW Marriott in Jakarta.

Building teams and future-ready portfolios

Speaking on his appointment, Rai said, “It is a privilege to join Accor at such an exciting moment for luxury hospitality and Accor’s expansion plans in the region. Accor’s commitment to purposeful growth, distinctive brands, and people-centric leadership strongly resonates with my own values. I look forward to working closely with our teams to craft memorable guest experiences, nurture talent and build future-ready luxury destinations that are both meaningful and sustainable.”

Known for a people-first leadership approach, Rai places strong emphasis on team development, stakeholder collaboration and long-term value creation. His appointment is expected to play a key role in shaping Accor’s next phase of luxury growth in South Asia, as competition intensifies across the region’s premium hospitality segment.
