The GST Council has decided to remove a host of tax exemptions and approved changes in tax rates on some goods and services. The Council, chaired by FM Nirmala Sitharaman, approved to impose a 12 percent tax on hotel rooms costing below Rs 1000 per day. The report of the Fitment Committee of the Council for developing a margin scheme for tour operators was also accepted by the Centre-state Council.
